SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS & SPEAKING

Hey there--and thanks for visiting. I serve as a pet products spokesperson/consultant for select companies, speak at writers workshops, pet conferences, and present seminars and keynote addresses on a variety of topics. I'm also happy to craft a talk for your specific event. You can contact me by email amy @ shojai.com (no spaces). Most of my presentations include fun power point talks complete with SQUEEE! cute pet pictures. Some of my more popular power point presentations include:

FOR WRITERS

  • Kindle-ization for Newbies: Ebooks are the current gold standard of publishing...at least for the next 60 seconds or so. In this presentation, you'll get a step-by-step how-to process for authors, including formatting tips for illustrations, covers, sidebars and table of contents. Includes marketing tips and social networking do's and don'ts, must-know links to further information, with fun pet-centric illustrations, of course! (Seminar Approx. 1 hour)

  • Lights! Cameras! Action! Media Training for Writers: This presentation teaches you how to use pitch-craft, with interview presentation tips, production how-to advice for radio, TV, podcasts, YouTube and more as part of writer/author promotion. Can include interactive mock-interviews with participants.(Seminar Approx. 1 hour)

  • Just The Facts: Create Winning Nonfiction Proposals: After publishing two-dozen nonfiction books with "traditional" publishers via an agent, I made every mistake possible--and also learned what worked. This session shows you how to choose saleable topics, build an impressive bio, query (or not), and craft the proposal. This includes what components make up the proposal, how to format, and create your competition/market survey. It also includes tips for finding expert sources. (Seminar Approx. 1 hour)

  • The Reinvented Writer: Today authors must be masochists in order to endure both the real and imagined slings and arrows of writer-icity bullying. This fun Power Point presentation shows you how to put on your big-boy(or girl)-panties, suck it up, and succeed. You will gain easy to use tips on how to "brand" yourself; the benefits of collaboration; ways to build "tribes" and why you should; how to leverage nonfiction to transition to fiction; ways to create diverse revenue streams; and how to use multiple platforms (blogs, YouTube, kindle, POD, audiobooks and more) to build your audience and career. Oh, and you'll see some cute puppy and kitty pictures, too. (KEYNOTE: Approx 30 minutes, or WORKSHOP Approx 2 hours)

  • Writing Like Cats & Dogs: Turn Niche Writing Into A “Brand-New” Career. This workshop shows writers how to leverage special interest(s) to build author brand, generate content for blogs, (or use blogs for book content!), create columns and more. Learn how to create credibility as the go-to “expert” in your field. (WORKSHOP Approx 4 hours)

  • Imagine That! Transitioning from Nonfiction to Fiction. Nonfiction writers have an advantage over fiction-only writers IF they learn how to leverage their existing nonfiction platform. This session teaches writers how to jump start a fiction career, what's the same/different, and choosing your publication path that suits you best. (Seminar Approx 1 hour)

FOR PET SITTERS, SHELTER STAFF, RESCUES & PET LOVERS

  • Prevent Delinquent Dogs: Socializing Puppies They're cute, they're cuddle-worthy, but they grow up fast. These tips help ensure your baby dog lives up to his full potential. Learn the best age to adopt, the most important lessons to teach, and why socialization saves lives. (Seminar Approx 1 hour)

  • Create Confident Cats: Socializing Kittens Kittens are born with cute-icity so owners just smile and won't KILL THEM for getting in trouble. But once the cute wears off, delinquent kittens can lose their homes or lives. Socializing kittens to being handled and basic training with CRATE expectations, Liberation Training (leash/halter tips) and more builds a stronger bond. It's life insurance for kitties! (Seminar Approx 1 hour)

  • Senior Moments: Caring for Aging Pets Learn to recognize common old age conditions, understand what home care is available, and how to keep golden oldie pets happy with informed quality of life decisions. Includes how-to home care, first aid, environmental accommodation tips and more. (Workshop Approx 2 hours)

  • He Followed Me Home! Introducing A New Family Member Learn all the must-knows of proper pet introductions including your new baby to the resident pets. This session offers tips for choosing comPETabible pet partnerships, and how to keep the peace during cat-to-cat, dog-to-dog, and cat-to-dog introductions. You'll also learn how to avoid common behavior problems of multipet households. (Workshop Approx 2 hours)

  • Pet Peeves This fun session addresses the most common cat and dog complaints (potty accidents, aggression, digging, barking, clawing) and offers easy solutions and answers to such quirky subjects as: why do pets follow you to the bathroom? How can I stop pups from eating (ew!) poop. Learn how to choose the best pet combos using the P.E.T. Test, sure fire secrets to pet introductions, and more. (Workshop 2-4 hours)
